World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Woodbury–World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. The Cannon County Senior Center will host a classic car drive-in for their members from 10 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Information concerning elder abuse will be available.

Donelson–"Seniors are Classics" ice cream social and sock hop from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Donelson Senior Center. Classic cars, food, music and fun.

Gallatin–World Elder Abuse Awareness Day at the Gallatin Senior Center will show the video “Unheard Cries” and will hand out Purple Ribbons to everyone who comes into the center. A speaker from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department will discuss elder abuse issues.

Memphis–World Elder Abuse Awareness Day conference from 9 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. at Lindenwood Christian Church, 2400 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN. Speakers include Mayor A.C. Wharton, Mayor Joe Ford and District Attorney General William Gibbons. Topics include Elder Abuse Investigations, Financial Abuse of Older People and ways to be part of the solution.

The program will offer a viewing of "Preventing Elder Abuse with Betty White, panel discussion with APS and law enforcement, skit to demonstrate awareness of elder abuse and a question and answer period. (NET-VAC members will participate)

McMinnville–"Seniors are Classics" Car Show from 10a.m.-4 p.m. at the Foodland Plus in McMinnville, TN. The show is to raise money for the Warren County Senior Center and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. There will be awards in various categories and "people's choice" award. Music, food, spot prizes for wearing purple and a comic book costume contest for the kids.

Maryville–World Elder Abuse Awareness Day from 2-3:30 p.m. at the Everett Senior Center in Maryville, TN. Includes display of local emergency vehicles and health checks from 1-2 p.m. there will also be presentations by the Everett Senior Center, Maryville Fire Department, Family Promise and the Alcoa Police Department. Refreshments will be served.

Morristown–Hamblen County Senior Center is encouraging people to wear purple and providing a purple ribbon for the seniors to wear. There will also be a program, including a Proclamation from Morristown City Mayor and a Lt. Detective from Morristown Police Dept. to speak about Elder Abuse.

Ridgely–The Ridgely Senior Center will be having World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. All participants will be wearing purple. Special "purple" foods will be served for the congregrate meal at 11:30. A photo will be taken and fun in the local newspaper. Purple colored pudding- purple grapes- purple plums- purple kool-aide served on purple plates with matching napkins.

Kingston–Roane County Senior Center is introducing BeWare, Be Safe, Be Smart at the Kingston Community Center from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.. This program will ask seniors to sign a pledge card, that if they receive e-mails, phone calls, postal mail, internet solicitations of any kind, that appear too good to be true, they will HANG UP THE PHONE. If the senior gets to the point that they are planning on giving personal information of any kind though any of these contacts they will hang up and contact the Roane County Office on Aging for additional research, before they give out their personal information.
There will be refreshments provided, and vendor booths set up also.

LaVergne–The La Vergne Senior Center will have representatives from the police department and several health care agencies join us for an informal brunch and answer questions about elderly abuse, ways to report, and preventative measures to take as caregivers to insure the safety of the elderly.
The staff and center members are encouraged to wear purple. A craft table set-up for members to make a purple ribbon to wear.

Lewisburg–Marshall County Lewisburg FCE Club will be sponsoring a Purple Day. They will encourage all of the Senior Citizens that participate in the monthly potluck to wear purple. They will also be passing out elder abuse information.

Byrum-Porter Senior Center–On the 7th of June at our scheduled Nursing Home visit we will do drop notes laced with purple ribbons to residents who are out in the commons area or residents that we regularily visit.

We have a scheduled Pot Luck Lunch at which time we are encouraging all attending to wear purple. We will also distribute purple ribbons to remind them of individuals that are and have experienced "elder abuse."
